Domain names ... again? It appears as though the usual scams are surfacing again!

 

Scam 1 - someone phones you to say they have had a request to register a domain name that is extremely similar to your own domain name. If you act now, they will ignore the other people's registration request and instead register the domain(s) in your name. How very kind of them!

 

Action - make sure you find out exactly what domain(s) they are offering and how much they will cost. Then say you will get back to them. If you decide that you do actually want any of the domain names, call us (0845 873 8440) and compare our prices and terms & conditions ;-)

 

Scam 2 - an official looking letter arrives stating that your domain name is due to expire and giving you the option to renew the registration. If you registered the domain name via us (or have transferred it to our control), then we will renew it for you at the appropriate time and send you an invoice, Unless you have previously asked us not to renew it.

 

The only other correspondence you may receive is a certificate of registration from Nominet (for UK domains only).

 

Action - make a paper aeroplane with it and fly it into your recycling bin!

 

I am sure that there are other "methods" but basically, if we administer your domain names then only respond to communications from us ... but if in doubt, call us immediately!

 

When most people think of spam emails, they think of those messages that offer to help men "grow" and so on. However, spam is any unwanted emails - the problem is who decides what is wanted and what is not.

 

Our mail server has a sophisticated anti-spam system that is constantly updated (every hour) in an attempt to keep up with current spam campaigns and techniques. Unfortunately, the system can only do it's best to filter out unwanted emails based on currently known criteria.

 

As well as the central automated anti-spam system, it is also possible to control what gets though on a domain and user level. The White list contains email addresses that you are happy to accept, the Black list contains those email addresses that you never want to receive emails from.

 

You are able to populate White and Black lists via 2 different methods.

 

1. via WebMail. You can log onto our WebMail system and manage your white and black lists.

 

2. via an email report. You can opt to receive a report, every two hours, of emails that have been put onto a Quarantine list. You then have the option to whitelist, deliver, delete or blacklist the email / email address. You can also use option 1 to maintain the white and black lists.

 

Currently, these options are turned off for most domains. If you are having a problem with spam emails, please contact us and we will discuss the various options with you. 

 

The Wow Gallery opened in September 2007 selling quality art and crafts items. The web site was released to coincide with the shop opening.

 

Caroline, the owner of The Wow Gallery, decided that online purchases was not suitable for her customers, so the shop is run as a catalogue without the usual shopping basket features. Instead, customers contact the shop directly.

 

Having the web site allows Caroline to display her products to anyone with Internet access. It has allowed customers from many miles away to view items before deciding to buy, without the need to "take a risk" or make the journey to visit the shop. And, of course, a web site is much easier and cheaper to keep upto date than a printed catalogue!
