We realised that for many of our customers, the only time they ever heard from us was when they received their annual hosting invoice! So we decided it would be a good idea to send occasional newsletters to keep in touch and and up to date on what's happening at Ascend Internet.

We recently had a customer that needed to transfer a domain name to us. When they put in the transfer request to the company they registered it with, they sent them a bill for £45! So the £1.99 to register it in the first place turned out to be not so cheap.

There is very much more to newsletters than just formatting and words - as we found out when we started looking for a solution ourselves.

Unless you are only sending to a few people, you need some way to manage your subscription list. You also need to give subscribers the ability to unsubscribe at any time.

HTML newsletters are commonplace these days, but there is still the need for text only versions - so that means 2 versions of every newsletter you send.

Once you have a newsletter ready, it needs to be sent to possibly thousands of email addresses.

It would also be nice to know if anyone actually opens the newsletter and clicks any of the links you've put into the text, wouldn't it!

That is just a small summary of what is required from a newsletter management system but it's already quite a list! We spent a long time researching the available options, from free programs that you have to install on your own web site, through to fully managed, monthly subscription systems.

This newsletter has been created and sent using a system that we feel ticks all the right boxes. We are currently in the process of becoming a reseller so that we can offer the service to our clients.
